Impact of inversion of the CD4/CD8 ratio on the natural history of HIV-1 infection
Article Abstract:
The large group of seroconverters in the Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study (MACS) are studied to characterize the time from HIV-1 seroconversion to inversion of the CD4/CD8 ratio and to determine whether this interval is associated with the rate of progression of HIV-1 disease. The results reveal that the time from HIV-1 seroconversion to inversion of the CD4/CD8 ratio independently predicted time to AIDS.

A community-based study of the incidence of trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole-preventable infections in Malawian adults living with HIV
Article Abstract:
A community-based cohort study is conducted to measure the incidence of potentially TS-preventable illnesses in Blantyre, Malawi. Results reveal a high incidence of malaria, invasive bacterial infections, and probable bacterial pneumonias but low rates of Pneumocystis jirovecci pneumonia, isoporiasis, and Toxoplasma encephalitis.
