Tributaries to the team
Article Abstract:
Multidisciplinary community mental health teams perform a vital function. Operating a multidisciplinary team presents many difficulties, and health or social service authorities are increasingly withdrawing their involvement in community teams. However, integrated teams cater for clients' integrated needs and authorities should invest effort in making them work. The most important aspects of a successful team are good leadership and effective team coordination. This will involve all agencies empowering the team leader to implement policy, and it may require written agreements governing internal cooperation.

Life support and first aid in a mental health setting
Article Abstract:
A nurse, at St Andrew's psychiatric hospital in Northampton, United Kingdom, outlines the results of a review of the hospital's emergency and resuscitation provision. The hospital gave him responsibility for this provision because he has life-support skills and first aid experience with St John Ambulance. The first priority was to look at current equipment and skills, then new standards based on the Resuscitation Council (UK) were introduced. Staff training included a life support and defibrillation course and first aid. Refresher courses are also run.
