Truck-safety rules get a tune-up
Article Abstract:
Regulatory reforms in the trucking industry were mandated by the Federal Highway Administration to address issues concerning the industry. The agency implemented its Zero Base Regulatory Review which aimed to repeal repetitive and outdated rules. The zero base plan involves four phases which focus on public participation on the mandates, research and formulation of rules. The reforms are expected to decrease the incidence of accidents by promulgating safety standards. The length of the driver's service in a day continues to be controversial issue in the regulatory reforms.
