Unkind cut
Article Abstract:
Two major developments in the use of anesthesia occurred in 1846; in the USA William Morton used Ether gas as an anesthetic and in the United Kingdom Robert Liston carried out surgery whilst his patient was anesthetized. During the 19th century drugs were frequently used for pain relief but the use of chloroform to relieve pain in childbirth was not permitted until after 1853. The use of drugs during surgery is no longer controversial but new practices concerning the role of nurses in anesthesiology are under discussion.
