A summary of research on lung disease is presented, including the treatment of asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease, chronic bronchitis, community-acquired pneumonia, interstitial lung disease, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, and pulmonary embolism. All of the research was published in 1999 or 2000.

Article Abstract:
Important research on lung diseases published in 2002 and 2003 is reviewed. Topics include treating pulmonary hypertension with epoprostenol, bosentan, and prostacyclin analogues. Other studies evaluated low dose CT scans for diagnosing lung cancer in its early stages when it can be easily cured.

Risk factors for postoperative pulmonary complications emerge from a prospective study of clinical and laboratory variables
Article Abstract:
The risk factors for postoperative pulmonary complications are discussed. A simple tool based on the history and physical examination to identify patients with an increased risk for postoperative pulmonary complications is provided.
