Uptake of smear tests in a gynaecology unit
Article Abstract:
Opportunistic smear testing should be offered by gynaecology units, with many women still not having smear tests for cervical cancer in spite of the availability of widespread screening facilities. Only 20% of those who die from the disease have ever had had a smear test. Ninety percent of 100 women surveyed in a gynaecology unit believed they would be happy to have a cervical smear test when being seen for other reasons at a gynaecology unit. Sixty nine percent of women surveyed had not been offered a cervical smear test anywhere else, while 8% of those surveyed had never had a test.
