Ureteral complications with operative gynecologic laparoscopy
Article Abstract:
A hysterectomy performed using laparoscopic surgery may damage the ureters. The ureters connect the kidneys to the bladder. Researchers analyzed the consequences of 790 laparoscopic gynecologic procedures. Three women sustained injuries to their ureters and all had had a laparscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy. Dissection of the cardinal ligament was linked to ureter injuries. No other type of gynecologic surgery caused damage to the ureters.
