Length of Stay for Specialized Pediatric Urologic Care
Article Abstract:
Surgery by pediatric urologists may shorten the hospital stays of children undergoing surgical repairs of an obstructed ureteropelvic junction or vesicoureteral reflux. Researchers compared the hospital stays of children who underwent surgery by pediatric urologists or general urologists. Hospital stays were significantly shorter for children treated by specialists. Had all the children in the study received specialist surgical treatment and postoperative care, the number of days required for hospitalization would have been reduced by 39%.

Hyponatremic seizure in a child using desmopressin for nocturnal enuresis
Article Abstract:
Nocturnal bedwetting has been successfully treated with nasal spray dosage of desmopressin, but there are possible side effects to consider. A hyponatremic seizure -- a seizure cause by inability to excrete water, resulting in too much sodium in the blood -- can be the result, as it was with one 10-year old boy taken to Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, D.C. The medical staff restricted his fluids and give him an intravenous saline solution, which prevented further seizures.
