A randomized controlled trial of strict glycemic control and tertiary level obstetric care versus routine obstetric care in the management of gestational diabetes: a pilot study
Article Abstract:
Preliminary results indicate that intensive treatment for pregnant women with gestational diabetes does not seem to significantly affect birth complications. Three hundred women with gestational diabetes were either given routine obstetric care (control group) or monitored closely by diabetic specialists (study group). Glucose levels before and after meals were lower in the study group during the last trimester compared to the control group. The study group delivered slightly but not significantly smaller infants. Cesarean and vaginal delivery rates were similar for both groups.

Understanding evidence-based medicine: a primer
Article Abstract:
The principles of evidence-based medicine are described. Evidence-based medicine means studying the scientific evidence to determine which treatments work and which do not. It requires knowledge of study design, epidemiology, and medical statistics.
