Using visual assessment to identify a client's needs
Article Abstract:
Testing the capabilities of a person with learning disabilities can sometimes be carried out in the wrong way, leading to that person being dismissed as not being able to perform certain tasks or not being able to see beyond a certain distance. Care should be taken not to use tests which are based on complex cognitive, motor or social skills, as these may well be inappropriate. Assessment should always be carried out in the presence of someone who plays a significant role in the care of the person with learning disabilities.
