The sensitivity and specificity of the goldberg cut-off for EI:BMR for identifying diet reports of poor validity
Article Abstract:
Data from studies where energy intake is self-reported and energy expenditure measured by doubly-labelled water was examined, to determine the specificity and sensitivity of the Goldberg cut-off.

Energy requirements of pregnant and lactating women
Article Abstract:
A discrepancy exists between energy costs and energy intakes in estimating energy requirements for pregnant and lactating mothers. This occurs when there is a decrease in the mother's energy expenditure. Either physical activity level values or the 1985 recommendations may be used in determining the energy requirements of pregnancy and lactation. Breast milk production in lactation depends on the infant's demand and not on high energy intake.

Validation of dietary intakes of protein and energy against 24 hour urinary N and DLW energy expenditure in middle-aged women, retired men and post-obese subjects; comparisons with validation against presumed energy requirements
Article Abstract:
Nitrogen intake (NI) measured by 24 h urinary nitrogen excretion and energy intake (EI) derived from doubly labelled water (DLW) measurement of energy expenditure (EE) were used to validate reported dietary intakes. DLW measurements identified under-reporting of energy at individual and group levels, while urinary N excretion indicated under-reporters of protein intake and only the most obvious under-reporters of energy. The ratio of EI and basal metabolic rate can also be used to establish validity provided the physical activity of the group under study is well known.
