Cardiogenic Shock
Article Abstract:
Myocardial infarction can produce cardiogenic shock, a highly fatal loss of fluid circulation, and an understanding of that condition's physiology can help a physician recognize occurring processes and treat them as they arise. This is crucial, as mortality rates for patients with cardiogenic shock range from 50% to 80%. Once started, cardiogenic shock feeds on itself as ischemia causes myocardial dysfunction, which then causes the ischernia to deteriorate. An organized approach with rapid diagnosis and prompt initiation of therapy to maintain blood pressure and cardiac output is necessary for good outcome.

Radiofrequency ablation: a new era in the treatment of pediatric arrhythmias
Article Abstract:
Radiofrequency (RF) ablation may be an effective treatment for arrhythmias, or irregular heartbeat in children. RF ablation is a technique in which an electrical current is administered with a catheter to destroy the portion of heart tissue responsible for the arrhythmia. At one university hospital, 19 RF ablations were performed on 17 pediatric patients aged seven to 21 years. There were no major complications, and the arrhythmia was eliminated in 16 patients.
