Visual analog scale of ART adherence: Association with 3-day self-report and adherence barriers
Article Abstract:
The research that assessed the association between self-reported adherence on visual analog scales (VASs) and an existing, more complex self-reported measure of adherence, the AACTG, and the degree to which each method distinguished optimally and suboptimally adherent patients in terms of reported barriers to adherence is presented. Results support the construct validity of the VAS and its function as an easily administered assessment tool that could identify patients with barriers to adherence that might benefit from adherence support interventions.

T-lymphocyte profile and total and virus-specific immunoglobulin concentrations in the cervix of HIV-1-infected women
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine the T-lymphocyte phenotype and receptor repertoire as well as total and virus-specific immunoglobulin concentrations in the endocervix of HIV-infected women at different stages of infection as compared with uninfected women. The study results demonstrated a distinct pattern of T-cell subpopulations and antibody concentrations in the endocervix of HIV-infected women, which is characterized by CD[4.sup.+] T-cell depletion and increased levels of cervical lgG.

Association between paired plasma and cervicovaginal lavage fluid HIV-1 RNA levels during 36 months
Article Abstract:
The patterns of HIV-1 RNA in paired plasma and cervicovaginal lavage (CVL) fluid measurements during 36-month period and the associations among CVL fluid HIV-1 RNA and plasma viral load (PVL), antiretroviral therapy, genital tract infections and the presence of semen in CVL are examined. The plasma viral load is the strongest predictor of CVL fluid HIV-1 RNA detection and is more likely to rebound first or at the same time as CVL fluid viral load.
