Vital ingredient
Article Abstract:
The intake of folic acid by pregnant women is essential to the prevention of neural tube defects and spina bifida in babies. The recurrence of a neural tube defect in a second child was reduced by 72%, if the mother took folic acid supplements around conception, according to a report by the Medical Research Council. Spina bifida prevails in 92 live births annually, and many affected pregnancies lead to miscarriage or abortion, according to the Association of Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus. The action taken by student nurse, Michelle Goodman, to increase awareness of folic acid's importance in women in Peterborough, UK, is also discussed.

And so to beds
Article Abstract:
Empirical evidence indicates that high quality pressure-relieving mattresses are crucial in the treatment and prevention of pressure sores. Pressure-reduction and pressure-relief devices keep the skin and underlying tissues healthy by maintaining circulation. The standard NHS contract 'economy' mattress is inappropriate for use by patients at risk of pressure sores. Alternating pressure mattresses are comparatively inexpensive and work similarly to natural pressure applications. Low-air-loss mattresses fit closely to the body shape and help accelerate wound healing.
