What clinicians should know about the QT interval
Article Abstract:
A description of the QT interval is presented because many drugs can increase this interval, which can cause a serious arrhythmia. The QT interval is the part of the electrocardiogram (ECG) that traces the electrical activity of the heart during its contraction and recovery before it contracts again. All patients who take a QT-prolonging drug should have regular ECGs. These drugs include anti-arrhythmics, antipsychotics, antibiotics, and antidepressants.
