What now for NHS Direct?
Article Abstract:
The UK government launched National Health Service Direct (NHS Direct) in 1998 to reduce accident and emergency (A&E) and General Practitioner (GP) visits, and receive plaudits for the service. However, in 2006, in the government's zeal to introduce private-sector competition, NHS Direct's future looks uncertain, and both patients and nurses might have to pay the price of cuts in the service.

Patients' right to decide whether to be resuscitated
Article Abstract:
An argument on a patients' right to decide on cardiopulmonary resuscitation is presented. The clear guidelines about resuscitation decisions reveal that though the ultimate responsibility lies with the general practitioner in charge of the patient's care, the decision should be made in consultation with other members of the medical and nursing team, the patient, and the patient's family.
