Response and relief on resident hours
Article Abstract:
The American Medical Association (AMA), after a 1987 mandate from its resident and medical school sections, has worked with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education to reduce medical residents' work hours. As a result, each of the 25 graduate medical school specialties address the issue of hours and supervision in its special requirements for residency programs. Although this is a compromise, it is an improvement for the residents. Residents were found to work as many as 122 hours per week according to AMA research conducted in 1987.

To die in peace: Whose right is it? Whose choice?
Article Abstract:
Physicians must communicate with terminally ill patients to determine whether they want to be kept alive by heroic means. Subjecting dying patients to last-minute tests and procedures not only runs up prohibitive bills, but more importantly ruins quality of life for dying persons. If these patients wish to remain at home and can be reasonably well cared for, they should not be put in a hospital to undergo fruitless and painful treatments.
