Workers-comp update
Article Abstract:
Workers-compensation claims from indoor-air quality complaints are minimal. However, this does not mean that companies have to ignore precautionary measures. Basically, there are two types of indoor-air quality problems: sick-building syndrome and building-related illness. The former is usually controlled by a well-ventilated and properly conditioned building plus carbon dioxide tests. The latter is caused by humid atmosphere and can be abated not only by monitoring the cooling system but the whole building as well. Workers' medical histories must also be documented for easy diagnosis.

Workers - comp update
Article Abstract:
Managed care should include utilization review where medical protocols are analyzed to ensure that an employer will pay only for appropriate medical treatment and that the employees will get the needed treatment. Although utilization review has been a part of the healthcare insurance industry for some time, it is a comparatively new phenomenon in workers' compensation. Employers are advised to include pre-certification criteria, a patient- specific program and a utilization-review management plan in their utilization review plans.

Employee support helps small businesses cut injury costs
Article Abstract:
Small business enterprises must underscore the adoption of well-defined and efficient employee compensation framework in order to make injury and accident costs more manageable. Aside from fostering good relations and consistent communications with employees, it would also be wise for employers to offer additional compensation or performance bonuses to motivate them. Employers must also see to it that workers are given the right duties and responsibilities after they have been oriented with the entire company setting.
