The Afro-Caribbean community
Article Abstract:
Staff caring for sick and dying Afro Caribbean patients in UK hospitals should be aware of the particular needs of such patients and their families, particularly when the patients are regular churchgoers. Members of the Afro Caribbean community should be given the privacy to practice their religion in their accustomed demonstrative way. Facilities for visits by members of the patient's extended family should be made available. Older members of an Afro Caribbean patient's family could find the idea of post-mortems and organ transplants offensive. Elaborate funerals are customary.

Rastafarianism
Article Abstract:
The treatment of dying Rastafarians with regard to their religion is described. Some Rastafarians may reject Western type treatments, in favour of alternative treatments. Most would not agree to a post-mortem or body donation and assurance must be given over the receipt or donation of blood because of fears of contamination.
