Jackie McLean

Jazz musician and educator Jackie McLean was one of the leading alto saxophonists of his time, his work representing a transition from the rhythmically intense hard bop of the 1950s to the free jazz of the 1960s. One of McLean's great achievements as an educator was the creation of a degree program in jazz studies at the University of Hartford, where he founded the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz.

Robert Wise

Filmmaker Robert Wise was a Hollywood cutting-room journeyman who matured into a masterly director and producer of outstanding motion pictures in a wide range of genres, from horror and the Western to caper, melodrama and the musical. He won the first Academy Award for best director for his 'Somebody Up There Likes Me, one of his biggest hits.
