Joseph Rotblat was a Polish-born British physicist and a claimant to the title of 'conscience of the nuclear age'. The Nobel Peace Prize laureate was one of the 11 signatories of the 1955 Russell-Einstein Manifesto, the document in which Albert Einstein and Bertrand Russell invited world scientists to unite in a campaign against any future use of nuclear weapons.

Philip Berrigan, October 5, 1923-December 6, 2002 was a radical antiwar activist, and a former Roman Catholic priest. He was arrested more than 60 times and spent a total of 11 years behind bars, including 10 months in a federal correctional institution in 2001.
