Katharine Jefferts Schori, Presiding bishop-elect of the Episcopal Church in the United States

Katharine Jefferts Schori on June 18, 2006 was elected by fellow bishops to a nine-year term as the next presiding bishop and spiritual leader of the 2.4 million-member Episcopal Church in the US, the first woman to head any branch of the worldwide Anglican Communion and the first woman in the US to lead a major Protestant denomination. Jefferts Schori's election triggered dismay, and even outrage, among many conservative over her approval of the ordination of openly homosexual men and the blessing of same-sex marriages by priests.

Gwen Ifill

Gwen Ifill has served as the moderator and managing editor of Washington Week in Review, Public Broadcasting Service's (PBS's) longest-running public-affairs program, and as a senior correspondent for the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, which broadcasts on the network each weeknight since 1999. She became the first African-American woman to host a political television talk show that reached a national audience.

Willie Randolph

Willie Randolph was appointed as the 18h manager for the New York Mets baseball team in November 2004, which made him the first African-American manager of a major-league baseball team in New York's history. He started his career in 1990s as a bench coach and third-based coach after which the Met team appeared in the World Series six times and qualified for postseason play in 10 consecutive years.
