Filmmaker Manoj Nelliyattu Shyamalan, born in the province of Tamil-Nadu, India on August 6, 1970, is an Oscar-nominated screenwriter and director of the supernatural thrillers 'The Sixth Sense' (1999) and 'Signs' (2002). He idolized Steven Spielberg and films such as 'Jaws' and 'Star Wars' directly influenced him. In 1992, he directed, produced and starred in his debut feature film, 'Praying with Anger', which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, in Toronto, Ontario.
