Selig was elected as commissioner of baseball by the owners of major league clubs in 1998 after serving as acting commissioner for six years. A dedicated fan of baseball, he took ownership of a bankrupt Seattle club in 1970 and moved the team to Milwaukee, WI, which later became the Milwaukee Brewers.
