A philatelist fondly remembers as a boy, the delight of getting packs of postage stamps from which to to select. Any unwanted stamps could be returned to the dealer for three cents. Some stamp club organization will put together a packet of stamps for approval and circulate them as a service.

Faud became Sultan of the British Egyptian Colony in 1917 and his son Farouk became King in 1936. Both men were avid stamp collectors and when Farouk was ousted in 1952, the collection confiscated by the state, was up for sale. Various oddities in the collection are described.
