A Manhattan restaurateur has put to work a lifetime of on-the-job lessons to redesign his New York apartment kitchen, which had not been touched since the building went up in 1982. Chef Michael Lomonaco's main idea was to work within the existing 7-by-10-foot, simple galley kitchen and outfit it with storage-intensive custom cabinets, conventional appliances and easy-to-clean surfaces.

Details and plans of Jim Martin, a kitchen designer for renovation of Ellen Mitnick's kitchen of her farmhouse situated in Pennsylvania are presented. Plans include converting the first floor of an 18th century house into an open, family-friendly kitchen and mix of materials and finishes to give a new room old-fashioned character.

The Pennsylvania couple Randall and Brenda Bock took guidance from an article 'Essential Kitchens', when it came to change their 19th century kitchen into the 21st century. Some of the changes include a U-shaped layout, antique-white painted cabinets, dark green granite countertops, and deep storage drawers.
