A seller who can indicate the date of manufacture of an object not only shows depth of knowledge, but provides a tacit guarantee to the object. The seller also displays a kind of professionalism no longer evident throughout much of the trade. A table for assigning a date of manufacture is presented.

Antique and collectibles dealers need to price their wares effectively so that people will buy them, and so that they can put out new merchandise. The influx of Internet auctions and flea markets makes overexposure of merchandise an increasing risk.

Many antique dealers discount their prices, but do not always advertise the practice. Dealers who participate in large fairs and offer large discounts are usually trying to get rid of merchandise. The practice should be halted.
