Fancy cuts: Laser saws revive the ancient craft of inlaid flooring
Article Abstract:
Fancy cuts are again becoming popular and their popularity could be attributed to the development of a laser saw, which is one of the most sophisticated wood cutting tools. The AutoCAD design software helps in translating the designer's sketch and converting it into a custom pattern, but at the same time the classic patterns and motifs that are featured in a manufacture's catalog can be used while planning an inlaid wood floor and options like water-based finishes that are nontoxic and fast drying can be selected.

According to Tom Silva, the reveal, which is the space between the door and jamb should be 1/8 to 3/16 inch wide and an uneven reveal could indicate that the hinges were loose or out of alignment.
