Frank Cabot Lodge is profiled, the 2000 recipient of the American Horticultural Society's Liberty Hyde Bailey Award given for all-around horticultural excellence.Cabot lives in Quebec, received no formal training in horticulture and has his interest in gardening from his family background, as two of his uncles were landscape architects.

Living harmoniously with lady beetles

Issues concerning the manner in which lady beetles, commonly known as lady bugs, can be controlled during the winter months, when they attempt to live indoors, are examined. Topics include the benefits lady beetles provide to gardens in the warmer months and techniques to remove lady beetles from the house without killing them.

William Carlson wins first Cathey Award

William H. Carlson was awarded the American Horticultural Society's H. Marc Cathey Award in 2000 for his research achievements. Carlson, a professor of horticulture at Michigan State University, has spent more than 30 years researching the physiology of flowering plants.
