Grow your own garlic
Article Abstract:
Josh Rapport, co-owner of an Oregon farm that features an acre of garlic, describes the method of growing garlic and encourages home gardeners to grow their own. Softneck and hardneck are the two natural varieties of garlic that have developed, though regardless of which variety the home gardener chooses, it must be planted in late fall, between mid-October and mid-November, before the ground freezes.

A curious charmer: Jack-in-the-pulpit
Article Abstract:
Arisaemas, also known as jack-in-the-pulpit, make beautiful woodland garden companions for ferns, hostas, and heuchera, or can be a fine counterpart to a patch of delicate Dicentra. Jack-in-the-pulpit and dragon plants are native to the eastern US woodlands, and at least one arisaema is native to Mexico, offering gardeners myriad nuanced colors and patterns in a fantasy of shapes and sizes.
