Laureen Lynn expanded her house area by creating four outdoor rooms that were carport, driveway Patio, grilling area, and lawn with the help of architect H. Don Bowden and landscape architect Paul Fontenot thereby solving her problem of entertaining her guests. The reasons attributed to the success of this kind of landscape include each room serving multiple purposes and an open design that helps guests to move from one room to another.

The vibrant hues of violas if included in containers add a vivid splash of color to deck or patio. Joann Breland, a horticulturist, says that violas don't require a whole lot of maintenance to keep looking good all winter long. Violas also keep their shape and color all season and don't require deadheading to continue blooming.
