Move up remodeling: raising the roof may be the most practical way to gain more living space
Article Abstract:
Growing families often must either move to a larger house, or add on to the present one. The addition of an upper floor may be the smartest remodeling move. Three houses, with second-floor additions, are examined, and possible problems and solutions are discussed.

Closet creativity
Article Abstract:
The design and construction of a closet in the limited space next to an entryway is described. The closet is only 12 inches deep and uses bifold doors. The trimming of the closet was planned to match the millwork in the rest of the 19th-century townhouse.

Under-stair storage
Article Abstract:
The design and construction of storage space beneath a stairway is described. Contractor Frank Ragano built a closet/storage area beneath stairs by cutting trapezoid-shaped doors for access. The doors were finished to match the paneling in the room.
