Article Abstract:
The ivory-billed woodpecker that holds a place in the still-wild patches of the South has been listed as one of the endangered species of the world. In spite of a one month search carried out in and around the Pearl River Wildlife Management Area, in the winter of 2002, renowned scientists and expert birders were unable to trace a single ivory-billed woodpecker.

A class given by the Four Corners School of Outdoor Education, based in Utah, is discussed. The students study the life of the Anasazi, Native American people from their former home in the Ute Tribal Park. The archeology and rock art trip lasts 7 days.
