The Exbury azaleas, created by Baron Lionel de Rothschild of Southampton, England, are vigorous, hardy plants, with large flowers of brilliant colors. Issues concerning the problems posed by the summer heat in the Lower and Coastal areas, are presented, with reference to crossing the plants with Southern native azaleas.

No sting to scorpion weed
Article Abstract:
The scorpion weed which grows naturally in moist woodland areas in the Upper, Middle, and Lower American South, blooms with lavendar-blue flowers. Although this biennial plant is a weed, its foliage appears in the late fall and it blooms profusely in the spring before dying off.

Saving the Southern landscape
Article Abstract:
The ecosystems in the Southern States have undergone massive deterioration during the last century. However, there remain some small enclaves of preserved ecosystems, notably Crosby Arboretum in Mississipi, Briarwood in Louisiana and Mount Cuba Center in Delaware.
