The 250th birth anniversary of Thomas Jefferson brings to mind his influence and impact on the world. Jefferson left many legacies, among them Monticello, Farmington, Poplar Forest and the University of Virginia, aside from the Declaration of Independence and ice cream.

On the rails to Washington
Article Abstract:
The National Railroad Passenger Corp's Crescent train, which follows the rail route of generations past, enables passengers to experience the thrills of an outmoded train ride. The rail routes pass through the Washington Union Station where passengers can eat and shop.

Turning rails into trails

The 34-mile Virginia Creeper Trail is one of many railroads that the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy organization has preserved. It is now for recreational purposes such as camping, jogging and cycling. Other rail-to-trail projects are named.
