A system with room for growth
Article Abstract:
Percom's PMS computerized personnel information system has six main options: personal records, organizational records, supervisor functions, reports-inquiries, codes and tables, and modules. PMS runs on all IBM and IBM-compatible PCs under concurrent CP-M, Xenix, and the Novell network when combined with MS-DOS. Winchester hard disc and 384 kilobyte RAM are required. PMS is said to have a very large capacity for a micro-based system: up to 128 megatbytes or 25,000 employee records per database. PMS is based on a predefined hierarchical database, requiring time investment in defining data structure, but allowing automatic forging of links between records once this work is done. PMS is written in 'C' language, resulting in a very portable system.

Article Abstract:
The Lotus Freelance computer software package allows the user to develop work slides, create original drawings and diagrams, and to edit both Lotus and Graphwriter charts. It is also possible to develop, store, merge, and retrieve specialized symbols such as company logos. The software works on the IBM PC via floppy disk. Charts generated by word processors can be introduced to Freelance if they are on ASCII files. The manual includes two basic sections: a tutorial for getting started and a more detailed reference. Freelance is characterized as easy to use. Other news of computer programs for personnel management applications is presented.
