Are consultants set up to fail?
Article Abstract:
Often human resources information system (HRIS) or payroll systems consultants are hired without forethought, and the lack of objectives and goals can cause problems in planning and productivity. There are suggested steps that personnel professionals can follow when hiring consultants to generate positive results including: deciding who should be in control of projects; developing a clear contractual and written statement of objectives; educating consultants about the corporate environment; and clearly stating a company's needs and expectations for a project. Additionally, efforts should be made to decide what aspects of a project will be finished when.

An HRIS marketing strategy
Article Abstract:
Managers of human resources information systems (HRIS) feel that customers who use the HRIS services and data are important, but often HRIS personnel are uncomfortable with the idea of marketing HRIS services to reach the customers who could possibly benefit from the information HRIS can provide. HRIS marketing can be successful, however, and involves: conducting market research to develop targets, marketing themes, and methodologies; making presentations to influential decision makers; and creating marketing communications such as brochures and newsletters. Additionally, HRIS marketing should emphasize customer relations.
