Traditional HR function must change
Article Abstract:
A UK study concludes that traditional human resource (HR) management should adopt a business focus in response to changing employment conditions marked by downsizing and outsourcing. However, in order for such an approach to be successful, non-HR management must accept the value of a business-focused HR function and HR performance must be measured. HR managers need to focus on issues such as strategic planning, benchmarking or similar areas, and should be able to demonstrate the value of their efforts, according to the research study.

What about the workers? Employment policy statements in 100 top annual reports
Article Abstract:
UK public companies' annual reports rarely contain employment policy information. While some employers devote space as required to discussions of disabled and minority employees or health and safety issues, an analysis of 100 reports indicates an overall general scarcity of detail on employment policies. However, 25% of the reports did contain information on employee training, development, and related issues.
