Create an empowering environment
Article Abstract:
Employee empowerment means enabling employees to measure and determine their individual contributions as well as the success of their departments and the organization in general. Empowered employees are motivated to perform to the best of their ability because they feel personally rewarded for their efforts. Vital to the success of empowerment programs is the creation of an empowering environment. In such an environment, employees are formed into work teams, are given clear strategic goals and are provided the information they need to perform their jobs well. Employees are also given the training and resources that will enable them to achieve their goals. These empowerment employees are allowed to measure their performance, and are given feedback and reinforcement. The experiences of Colgate-Palmolive Corp. and Eastman Chemical Co. with empowerment programs are discussed.
