Galileo, Lincoln and stress management
Article Abstract:
Galileo and Abraham Lincoln were early time stress experts, according to Laramie County (Wyoming) Community College instructor Ed Boenisch. Both men, he says, understood that self responsibility was the root of stress relief. He breaks their principles down into ten points, including: stop stress before it starts, watch how you talk to yourself, be honest and realistic, be patient, learn to depend on others, know yourself, notice your reactions to people and situations, pursue alternative stress management techniques, learn to let go of stress, and realize that stress management is an ongoing pursuit.

The Freudian factor
Article Abstract:
Managers who want to understand organizational behavior more completely should examine the influence of unconscious motives on the development of corporate culture. Every employee approaches the work environment with a certain amount of ego strength and self-esteem, attributes which influence whether individuals react to critical events by displaying neurotic or normal anxiety. The various types of unconscious defensive interaction are discussed within the context of a case study that illustrates how unconscious interactions between managers and subordinates influences organizational behavior.

What you don't know about stress
Article Abstract:
There are both negative and positive stress factors in the work place, traumatic and daily ones, and conscious and unconscious ones. Some stress can help build strength, alertness, and concentration. Too much or the wrong kind of stress can cut personal energy levels, weaken the immune system, and bring out inherent weaknesses. Misconceptions about stress and resulting job 'burnout' are discussed, and suggestions offered to preventing or reducing stress.
