Global management: concepts, themes, problems, and research issues
Article Abstract:
There is no standard definition of a global organization, largely because so many different organizations play important roles in the international environment. The primary types of global business organizations include multinational organizations, in which foreign operations are considered to be a group of largely independent businesses with a national orientation; international organizations, in which foreign operations are seen as appendages to strong centralized leadership; and global organizations, in which foreign operations are created to reach overseas markets and compete on a global scale. Future globalization research should focus on such topics as competition and business-government relationships.

Organizing on a global scale: a research and teaching agenda
Article Abstract:
The globalization process involves developing an understanding of turbulence and creating systems that keep resources moving. Research on globalization should identify how susceptible organizations are to the problems of interactive complexity and develop ways to reduce that complexity. Curricula for improving global competence should help develop such skills as negotiation, self-management, and communication. Educators should focus on several global issues, including localization versus globalization, strategic alliances, and environmental issues.
