Hampton report boosts health and safety
Article Abstract:
The independent Hampton Report on Regulatory Inspection and Enforcement recommends increasing penalties for health and safety offences. Even though the Health and Safety Commission (HSC) supports the report, a suggestion in the interim report to shift the balance from inspection to awareness and advice was considered inappropriate by HSC.

Concerted action to stem the stream of violence at work
Article Abstract:
The reports of the Health and Safety Commission's 3-year programme to tackle work-related violence that ended in April 2003 are given. The 11 national occupational standards for managing work-related violence are described. Violence is still the fastest growing health and safety concern, as the TUC's survey of trade union safety.
