How client/server is reshaping the HRIS
Article Abstract:
The client/server computing model significantly enhances the human resources information system (HRIS). It provides greater access, capacity, connectivity, relational technology and application sensitivity. It also facilitates the use of the most sophisticated graphical user interface and development tools. This technology adds intelligence to the the traditional file server platform by allocating processing and data management across networked resources. Client/server is useful to the HR function in a number of ways. It gives the personnel function the flexibility it needs to decentralize or distribute HR applications without having to relinquish centralized financial control. The technology likewise generates reliable and relevant data that are valuable to HR functions, such as payroll and benefits administration.

How clients/server is reshaping the HRIS
Article Abstract:
Client/server is providing numerous computing benefits to businesses by enhancing the architecture and platform of human resources information systems (HRIS). The new environment allows for maximum software and hardware applications, offers significant cost savings over mainframe and midrange systems, hastens systems development, enhances productivity of PC users through cooperative processing, supports interoperability and portability applications, and improves data integrity and security. The variety of personnel management functions, ranging from applicant tracking to union negotiations are made possible by the client/server system. Both centralization and decentralization are accomodated through client/server models thus providing the HRIS with maximum flexibility.

The evolution of client/server architecture
Article Abstract:
Client/server architecture has alleviated the many limitations encountered in the use of hardware file servers for local area networks (LANs). Information resources management, specifically in the field of human resources (HR), requires that the architectural model to be implemented and utilized address a number of specific needs. The human resources information system's requirements include distributed entry and access, ample storage and processing power, tool availability in the context of graphical use interfaces and applications development, new technologies regarding relational databases, and the ability to support and address constantly changing HR needs.
