Industrial relations and economic performance
Article Abstract:
Industrial relations issues in the areas of industrial action, workplace performance and pay since the 1968 Donovan Report are examined, with particular focus on data from WIRSs (Workplace Industrial Relations Surveys). The pay-jobs trade-off remains difficult to handle, company performance is no longer obstructed by industrial relations and the significance of industrial action is small. Pay is studied in terms of content, structure and coverage of collective bargaining and the non-union/union pay structure. Workplace and company performance is examined in terms of profitability and investment. Unofficial industrial action, dispute procedures and the consequences of striking are also analysed.

Industrial Relations Systems and US Foreign Direct Investment Abroad
Article Abstract:
Foreign direct investment (FDI) models that incorporate industrial relations variables can assist nations in developing economic policy. Works council procedures, International Labor Organization standards and higher hourly compensation costs encourage FDI, but union presence, centralized negotiation and government restrictions on layoffs discourage it. Education encourages FDI in nations with a high skill-high wage factor, but discourages it in low skill-low wage nations.

Negotiating the government of Unison: union democracy in theory and practice
Article Abstract:
During the 1980s the virtues of decentralised union government and democracy were questioned, and unions were criticised for not representing the interests of women. The creation of Unison led to the introduction of a system of proportionality for women and systems of representation for the lower-paid.
