Introduction: workplace change and HRM
Article Abstract:
Human resource management (HRM) research focuses on aims and objectives within company organisations, making it a specific science. Employee input is a vital part of research into the validity of HRM, and such input is often overlooked during studies. All stakeholders should have a voice with regard to improving management skills and raising performance levels. The use of multi-skilled workers in key areas, such as engineering, is an emerging trend across Europe and is a result of globalization. HRM can have differing effects on various industries through location and implementation.

Workplace reforms, managerial objectives and managerial outcomes: the perceptions of Canadian IR/HRM managers
Article Abstract:
A study of workplace reform in Canadian businesses found many of the human resource (HR) managers questioned felt workplace reforms had not resulted in signifiant change. Changes which did occur were cost-effective. Compensation payments to workers were not found to affect the outcomes of reforms. Reform often resulted in workers requiring less skills and the importance of union avoidance was identified. Most managers saw the reforms leading to better relations with customers and an improvement in the quality of work. The research involved HR managers from 141 Canadian businesses.
