Local government job adds: the good the bad and the ugly
Article Abstract:
Local government agencies in the UK, which account for one-third of the country's total spending on recruitment advertising, produce job advertisements whose quality varies from the best to the worst. The best local government job advertisements equal and sometimes surpass the quality of those produced by other employers. Some have won major advertising awards. The worst are often wanting in critical information yet overflowing with irrelevancies, badly written and ill-designed, inaccurate, and hard to respond to. The effective advertising productions are usually developed with the help of advertising specialists while the ineffective ones, which prove costlier in the long term, are usually produced by local governments on their own.
