Managers pull the plug on nighttime television
Article Abstract:
Recent research indicates that watching television has an effect on how employees perform in the workforce, resulting in: employees who are more interested in self-motivation than company loyalty; employees with decreased levels of motivation; and employees with health problems associated with watching TV. Additional research has revealed that television watching affects children's scholastic achievement, and much of the burden of education and training falls to employers. Today the American Society for Training and Development estimates that corporations spend $210 billion each year for employee training. Additionally, the Society believes employees, besides lacking intellectual skills, also lack social training, such as learning teamwork. To combat the potentially negative affects of TV watching in the work place, personnel managers can: develop fun activities after work; create wellness programs; and create programs the focus on teamwork.

Don't search, research
Article Abstract:
Independent researchers are an increasingly attractive option for firms which are searching for the best job candidates. Researchers provide lists of suitable recruiting contacts, resumes, and telephone numbers at a much lower price than typical executive search firms. A personnel manager can help achieve positive results when hiring an independent research firm by taking several steps such as: revealing all the information that the researcher needs to do the assignment; giving any names of people already considered but who are not suitable for a job; and not expecting miracles.
