Mastering the competencies of HR management
Article Abstract:
The human resources (HR) profession has transformed considerably during the 1990s. In response to the changes and challenges in their environment, a new breed of HR professionals is emerging and confidently taking advantage of the opportunities their situation presents. They are developing their competence to ensure their success in performing their HR jobs and therefore their value in the organization. HR professionals who want to follow in the footsteps of their pioneering peers may consider using Losey's Competency Equation as a guide for developing their competency. Using this formula, competency is the sum of five factors, namely, intelligence, education, experience, ethics and interest. These are the new requirements of the profession and HR practitioners should invest in them if they want to contribute value to their organizations.

Emerging competency methods for the future
Article Abstract:
Human resource (HR) practitioners can use competency practices to improve the performance of individuals and teams working within organizations. Five key trends are shaping the evolution of these competency practices: the demand for more participative methods, the shift toward short-cycle techniques, the increased emphasis on emerging competencies, the growing importance of team and process competencies, and the transition to the organizational learning perspective. As HR practitioners continue to reengineer their roles in a challenging new business environment, these competency practices need to be leveraged as tools that can be used to build an effective HR strategy that encourages employees to meet the learning and performance requirements demanded by organizations.
