Medical records-new possibilities
Article Abstract:
Organizations, especially those in which workers are exposed to hazardous materials, need better medical records. Also it is necessary to integrate the system recording the toxic substance with job-coded time and attendance records. Another reason involves the need for tracking illness and absenteeism. Specialized modules for computerized personnel information systems (CP15) now have improved security safeguards for medical confidentiality, and the information can be used for medical correlations.for medical correlations, and conditions can be used for medical correlations, and conditions can be assigned fitness codes for the benefit of personnel.

Data protection and the subject of access
Article Abstract:
The Data Protection Act 1984 permits employees to have copies of information being held about them by employers. This refers to computerized personnel information, not manual records. Some types of data may be withheld, and employers may refuse to disclose information on some occasions. The information will not be provided automatically; the individual must request it. The employer may make a nominal charge of 10 pounds sterling or less, and has 40 days to comply. Medical records fall within the range of the Act, though the nature and scope of disclosure is being debated.
