Mired in paperwork
Article Abstract:
Observers believe that the new Republican majority in Congress will deemphasize anti-employer benefits legislation and increase legislative oversight of the Clinton administration's attempts to regulate pensions. The Republicans are also expected to reassess the GATT provisions on pensions, reduce the tax expenditure for pensions, move for the amendment of health-care reform pre-emption provisions and propose the streamlining of pension laws.

Are 401(k) investments driving the market?
Article Abstract:
Investment analysts believe that the growth of the stock market is fueled by 401(k) investments in mutual funds. About 70% of 401(k) contributions totalling $420 billion were invested in the stock market through mutual fund companies in 1995. These 401(k) contributions ensure a constant supply of funds for the stock market which in turn boosts investor confidence in initial public offerings and the overall equity market.

Use employee behavior in 401(k) marketing
Article Abstract:
Investors can be categorized into rejectors, avoiders, acceptors and embracers. Knowledge of the behavior segments affecting 401(k) participation may lead employers to effective communication strategies that will encourage greater employee participation in 401(k) plans. It is better to avoid concentrating on rejecters. In general, resources should be focused more on downscale avoiders and downscale embracers.
